Through the turnstiles!
To enter the platform, a rider inserts the magnetically encoded transit card into the high-tech turnstile. The turnstile registers the fare, and returns the card to the rider if the destination has yet to be reached. At the destination, the turnstile knows to keep the card. Smart machine!
