The Tokyo Subway

After our city tour, we made our way back to the hotel using the Tokyo subway. With most of the writing in Japanese, we had an hilarious time trying to figure out the route, the ticket prices, and just generally what to do. We watched other people. It took a while--and there was a lot of uncertainty--but eventually we bought our tickets, boarded the proper train, and arrived at our destination. Dot loved the Tokyo trains. She's only five feet tall. It's the first subway that she's been on where she could conveniently reach the overhead straps!

The pictures below show the mapboard that confronted us when we entered the subway. It seems clear that the Tokyo Subway system requires study even by Japanese transit riders! After a good deal of scrutiny. Dot deposited our fares, punched in our ticket prices, and got our travel cards,
