A Shinto Shrine

Our travel package included a "half day" city tour. Much of this city tour involved a sight-seeing bus that simply drove past attractions such as the Diet Building, the Tokyo Tower, the Ginza shopping area, etc. All the while, a microphone-equipped tour guide kept up the kind of patter that is commonly associated with such tours, "Now, on your right we have the Olympic Gymnasium... blah, blah, blah."

But, fair play! We had only half a day--and the tour did show us quite a bit of the city by bus. Also, the bus did make three stops--the Imperial Palace Gardens, the Asakusa District, and this Shinto Shrine. So, on balance, I'd say we made pretty good use of the 3 or 4 hours that we spent on the city tour.

In comparison to Buhddist temples we found this Shinto Shrine to be much more austere--but also, much more serene. (In general, our impression of Buhhdist temples was that they were somewhat chaotic; and, by contrast, this Shinto temple was very peaceful.)
