When we arrived in Fez, it was still "Day Nine" of our adventure. The next day, we had an exhilarating tour of the sights in Fez.
The Royal Palace (below) was one of our first stops. For some reason, I couldn't avoid comparing the gates of the Royal Palace to those of the Emerald City in the movie, "The Wizard of Oz." I expected to see a panel open, and a twinkly-eyed, green-uniformed gatekeeper appear.

Ahah! Come to the Casbah! We toured the Casbah in Fez. What a place! It was crowded with an incredible mix. There were pedestrians of course, and bicycles, and wheelbarrows, and mopeds, and cars and trucks (wherever motorized traffic could manage). The little burros weren't threatening; but the big donkeys, usually laden with tanks of propane, were a definite hazard. They almost galloped through the passageways! (And they were hazardous in other ways as well.)

At some point we left the brightest shopping areas and entered into dark passageways which seemed all the darker because we had come from glaring sunlight. In some of the narrowest places it was almost impossible to see. I was stepping on people lying in doorways! Didn't mean to. Just couldn't see 'em. And they didn't even seem to notice that I trod on them.

There were interesting stalls in the Casbah. Some of the merchandise was attractive. But we didn't have much time for shopping.

| From Fez, we journeyed to Marrakesh. I think Marrakesh was the jewel of our Morrocan itinerary. |
